FREELANCERS NEEDED

To give Oroborus the support we want, we can't (and probably shouldn't) do all the work in-house, so we're looking for some freelancers to help out. What we need most right now are people who would be interested in writing material for the various campaign books, particularly relatively short, interesting adventure scenarios, written in a clear and consise style, with the emphasis on explaining situations and outlining possibilities, but with relatively light emphasis on mechanics. We prefer scenarios which present a situation for gamemasters to build on, rather than super-detailed tactical scenarios.

We need material for the following settings:

Victorian Era

Diplomacy, Horror, Espionage and Detective style scenarios. Ones which combine these elements in clever ways would be particularly good. We have some general and some specific background material on this setting which we can provide to those with a serious interest.

Time Travel/Paratemporal

Alternate world scenarios with an imaginative twist to them. For this setting we are open to scenarios based on a variety of possible methods of paratemporal transport, but the resulting scenario needs to be self-contained to the specific world/timeline traveled to. We have limited background material for this setting, which is still in development.

Mythological/Heroic

We need scenarios for the first supplement to our game By the Gods. In this setting characters are heroes and demigods from traditional mythology. We need adventures set in several different sub-regions of the world, including Kievan Russia, Classical Greece, Scandinavia and other obvious settings. But we are particularly interested in scenarios for legendary China, Babylon, Egypt and West Africa. For the Chinese and Egyptian sections we may also need background essays.

Shakespearean

We need scenarios for our Shakespearean Adventures game. Initially we are specifically looking for scenarios based on Shakespeare's Italian plays, particularly Merchant of Venice, Tempest, Much Ado About Nothing and Two Gentlemen of Verona. We'll also consider other plays. Adventures based on Shakespearean plays are a challenge to write, but they can be quite interesting. We've got a sample adventure based on Romeo & Juliet you can use to get an idea of what we have in mind.

The Fire Within/Romantic Era Superheroes

We also need adventures for our The Fire Within game. This is a setting we're developing which is based around the idea that some of the larger-than-life characters of the Romantic Era developed super-powers. Think of the Napoleonic wars with Napoleon as a giant as big as his ego, Blake creating worlds out of his own fevered imagination and Byron like a living Greek god in every way.

We will also be needing material for a few other projects, but they aren't ready to be assigned yet. If you do work on these projects then you'll also be given first crack at future assignments.

Scenarios will be around 1500-2000 words in length. We are paying the equivalent of 2 or 3 cents a word (hey, we're not rich yet), and may also pay a royalty under certain conditions. Payment will not be specifically based on the length of the individual submission, but will be adjusted for the quality of the work submitted and the value which your work adds to the overall impact of the product. I realize that you could be earning more, but this should be relatively straightforward work, requires little technical knowledge and might just be fun.

If you are interested in giving this a try, drop us a line in email. Before any assignments are made we'll need short proposals with a description of what you have in mind. Any previous credits would also help, but we're interested in new talent as well as old.

You can get more info on some of these settings from the Adventures, Adaptation and Settings links to the left.

GENERAL GUIDELINES

If you want to write anything for us, here are the things you need to know.

1: Know your market. Get a good idea of what we're doing and where your idea will fit in our plans before you get started. Read our source material. Get familiar with our rules.

2: Submit a query or a short description of your proposed work before you do anything else. Include a description of the content, the likely length and where it would fit in our various projects.

3: Once we give you the go-ahead we'll send you a contract. We buy first North American Serial Rights and pay 2-3 cents per word. In some cases we may propose an additional royalty arrangement. We don't normally pay an advance on written work unless it is a complete book. However, we do pay writers on acceptance of their work.

4: When you submit your work it should be in an easily usable format, preferably MS Word, WordPerfect, straight ascii text or something equivalent. We prefer all submissions to be computer files. If you have to submit hard copy for some reason, please let us know well in advance.

5: Don't hesitate to ask questions before and during whatever work you're doing. If you need advice or guidance, that's what we're here for. Email questions to Dave Nalle at graball@ccsi.com, or use the email button to the left.
