Sir Edward Burne-Jones is probably the most recognized and
influential of
the Pre-Raphaelite artists of the middle and late 19th century. His work is characterized by
the unique look of the women who feature prominently in virtually every piece, by his
vivid use of color and his fondness for architectural frames and backgrounds. His women are
fit the classic Pre-Raphaelite model of fine features, high cheekbones and abundant, curly red
or brown hair, almost always draped in intricate classical gowns. Burne-Jones was strongly influenced by the artistic
styles of the Italian Reniassance and by the aesthetic ideas of Dante Gabriel
Rossetti.
Unlike other
Pre-Raphaelites like Layton and Waterhouse, Burne-Jones had a practical streak and did a number of
works on commission and for publication. In addition to portraits and many unique works based on
mythology and Arthurian legend, Burne-Jones worked as an illustrator in both black and white and
color. He collaborated with William Morris on the Kelmscott Chaucer as well as illustrating
other books for the Kelmscott Press and other publishers. Because much of his work was for speciality
publication in very limited print runs,
many of his published pieces were not widely circulated and are extremely hard to find.
Although early printed samples of his Burne-Jones work are extremely
hard to find, after several years working on the project our research team has managed
to collect some extraordinary images which are out of copyright and can be licensed to you for use in
your publications and projects.
Our Burne-Jones package includes color reproductions of some of his
best paintings, color illustrations froms everal sources, grayscale versions of some of his canvases and
black and white illustrations from the Kelmscott Chaucer. Because of its size and the high resolution of the images it is only available on CD.
The complete CD is only $39. As with all of our collections, the images have been cleaned up
digitally and recopyrighted, but they are licensed
to you for reprint or inclusion in other publications so long as you are not primarily reselling just the
art itself.
