The object of this contest is to assemble a 'Gallery of Horrors', a collection of horrific image pages which combine graphics, art and text to express halloweenish themes. Entries will be judged by the Scriptorium staff and winners will be announced on October 20th. Top entries will be displayed on a special Gallery of Horrors web page which will go online as soon as we have some qualifying entries. Prizes will include a font or image CD of the winners choice for the top entry, plus sampler disks for each of five honorable mentions.
In picking the winners we will be looking for originality, thematic appropriateness and visual impact. Each entry should be on a Halloween or Horror theme and should combine appropriate elements of text and graphics. It won't hurt if you use Scriptorium fonts in your entry, and original art and text might be a plus as well.
Authors/Designers will retain all rights to their work, although we reserve the right to display any entries as part of the Gallery of Horrors web page. Entries must be GIF or JPG images of no more than 75K in final compressed size. Include the names of any artists or writers whose original work was included. Entries should be sent as email file attachments to graball@infinity.ccsi.com.

The winning enty was SQUIFFY from Tim Morgan-Besselman of Laurel, MD. His font CD is on the way.
We picked Squiffy because there was a real trend among the entries towards silly names and names having to do with drunkeness and revelry. Many, many of the entries were excellent, but had to be eliminated because they were either too close to the names of already existing fonts or associated with other specific media properties. Squiffy not only sounds silly, it also has an appropriate meaning as an archaic term for being drunk.
The runners up were Roger T. Callahan, Elaine Thompson and Ellis Matthews.
The good news is that you can now download the shareware version of Squiffy by clicking on the sample given below. Plus we will have a new contest starting next week. It's a special Halloween contest and will be a bit more sophisticated than this one. Look for complete details here by Monday.
