Howard Pyle is perhaps the greatest American illustrator of the 19th century. In addition to writing, illustrating and designing scores of books on historical and literary topics, he was the founder of the Brandywine school and the teacher of other renowned illustrators like N. C. Wyeth and Frank Schoonover. Pyle is best known for his black and white and tinted book illustrations and his excellent color pieces are hard to find, but we have gathered enough to fill two disks which are available for $18 each (SCI2101 and SCI2102), or you can order the set for $35. Kay Nielsen was a remarkable Danish-American illustrator who did exquisite color plates for Childrens books in the early part of this century. He later went on to do design work for Walt Disney and was responsible for the design and conception of the haunting 'Night on Bald Mountain' segment in the movie Fantasia, as well as background designs for Sleeping Beauty. We have two disks of Nielsens fairytale illustrations available for $18 each (SCI2201 and SCI2202), or you can order the set for $35.

N. C. Wyeth was the most famous illustrator of the Brandywine school and the founder of a dynasty which includes some of America's greatest artists. Wyeth's illustrations are rich and detailed, focusing on themes of adventure and heroism. We have two disks of Wyeth illustrations available and several more will be available in the future. The first disk features a selection of his illustrations from The Boys King Arthur (SCI2301) and the second has illustrations on other literary and historical themes (SCI2302). They are $18 each or can be ordered as a set for $35. The Wyeth collection on our complete image CD includes additional images which are not yet available in smaller packages.

Edmund Dulac was one of the most prolific and talented illustrators of the turn of the century. His illustrations for Shakespeare, the Arabian Nights and Perault's fairytales are legendary and continue to be reprinted in collectors editions. Arthur Rackham is probably the best known English illustrator of the turn of the century. His aetherial style has been imitated by childrens book illustrators for almost a century and his illustrations for books like Wind in the Willows are legendary.
